Alcon Launches New Motorsport Clutch Range
The full range of race and rally clutches is available in carbon/carbon, sintered and cerametallic variants ranging in size from 200mm, through 184mm and 152mm to 140mm with single and multi-plate options and a variety of spring loads and ratios. All clutches have been designed for total interchangeability with current flywheel mounting patterns. The carbon/carbon clutches for race and rally are designed to withstand extremes of energy input and offer the greatest thermal capacity when operating at the highest temperatures. Alcon claim that the compact design and low moment of inertia of all relevant components enable faster gear changes, reducing wear on the gearbox and improving speed of engine pick-up. A high-grade aluminium alloy cover enhances rigidity and, as a result, driver feel, leading to improved standing starts. According to the manufacturer, when compared with similar carbon/carbon clutches these are 8% to 16% lighter in mass without any deterioration in performance. Alcon's sintered race clutches are engineered specifically for use in saloon, single seater and endurance racing. They are claimed to be up to 17% lighter than other equivalent competition clutches. The clutches are designed to allow precise modulation while at the same time providing a consistent biting point. This is coupled with high-grade steel pressure plates, which offer high thermal capacity stability for extra control at the start line. The new cerametallic rally clutches are robust to compete on rugged special stages, yet tractable for use on road sections. They are designed to deliver enhanced thermal capacity to withstand numerous maximum torque standing starts. A compact design has resulted in a lightweight clutch, while its components have been optimised for a low moment of inertia to provide for swift gear changes and extended gearbox life. The high-grade aluminium alloy cover enhances rigidity, affording greater driver feel for better standing starts. Relatively easy modulation has been designed into the clutch to allow safe and smooth progress when travelling between special stages. Exhaust manufacturer, Supersprint has announced a new and increased range of tail pipes for their performance exhaust systems. In addition there are many new complete Dyno tested systems and rear boxes, some of which are available in stainless steel, for the latest cars. Supersprint has also announced that there will be a 12.5% price reduction on all its products for 2001.
Ferodo Introduces Racing Standard Brakes for the Road Ferodo has recently launched the DS2000 for high performance cars. The DS2000 compound was originally developed for light inertia racing cars and also experienced a wide degree of success in rallying. Ferodo has further refined the compound and it is now available for a wide range of performance road cars. The manufacturer claims that the new brake pads provide race level performance without the need to build up and maintain high operating temperatures. With DS2000, low and high speed braking efficiency, reduced stopping distances and good water recovery are provided from cold. According to Ferodo, DS2000 brake pads are supplied 'ready to perform' and will reach maximum efficiency after only one or two brake applications. With a high co-efficient of friction 0.46, DS2000 provides good face resistance up to 650C. |
