The system is thought to be the first commercial use of Magneto-Rheological (MR) fluids and valve-less dampers in an automotive application. MagneRide provides a wide range of damping force control with good responsiveness. It is thought that the new system will help to overcome the traditional trade-offs between ride and handling. Delphi say that by enabling continuous, real-time damping control, the system will increase control of vehicle motions for a flat ride and precise handling as well as enhancing road holding for improved wheel control and a safer, more secure drive. Load transfer characteristics, meanwhile, will be controlled for improved roll control and handling during sudden, high-speed manoeuvres. MagneRide is also claimed to improve road isolation by reducing the transmission of high-frequency road disturbances through the dampers.
Delphi say that this can outperform conventional damping systems, but without the expensive electro-mechanical valves used in those systems. The product contains a heating prong which slides out of the top of the case and can be heated in a few seconds ready to be inserted into the keyhole. of Sale display (pictured) to help the trade promote its
new Engine Flush and Cleaner additive. The display unit
comes with two glass jars – one to contain a sample
of used engine oil and the other for used engine oil
drained from the sump after the application of Engine
Flush and Cleaner.
A new performance
rear silencer is available to fit onto the original
pipework of Ford Ka models built from September 1996
onwards. According to Magnex, Ka drivers will notice
power increases and a noticeable difference in torque
output from its use. The stainless steel silencer
(pictured), finished with a three-and-a half-inch round

MR fluids
consist of magnetically soft particles suspended in a
synthetic or silicon base fluid. An electro-magnet in the
damper piston uses signals from an on-board computer to
change the flow properties of the damper fluid up to 1000
times per second, as demonstrated in the diagram,
producing a mechanically simple, but very responsive and
controllable damping action.
The
colour-coded styling aids include a front bib spoiler
incorporating circular fog lamps, black mesh grille,
double-contoured side skirts and a deep rear valance as
