New Jaguar S-Type Exhaust System Tenneco Design New Jaguar S-Type Exhaust System Tenneco Automotive has announced that it has developed an exhaust system for the new Jaguar S-Type sports saloon. The system, which has been launched as part of the Walker Gillet range, has been put together as a result of the partnership between Jaguar and Tenneco Automotive engineers based in Edenkoben, Germany and in Grass Lake in the USA. For the entry level Jaguar 3.0 V6 model through to the flagship of the range, the 4.0 V8, Tenneco has developed a twin close coupled catalytic converter and muffler. In addition, for the V8 the company has designed a fabricated air gap insulated manifold which has enabled Jaguar to do away with the traditional heat shield which protects surrounding parts such as the cam cover, steering column and so on. A further advantage of the new manifold is the reduction of light-off time for close coupled converters and semi close coupled converters, offering the capability to achieve more stringent emission standards. As far as the catalytic converter is concerned, the Jaguar S-type system has been fitted with a monolith converter designed specifically to generate significantly less back pressure and improve engine output. Twin close coupled catalysts deliver low emissions and good fuel economy. For the muffler, silencer and tail pipe Tenneco worked to a very low back pressure target without compromising acoustic performance. The exhaust is a double flow system with two resonator boxes and two rear silencers. Stainless steel was used externally and internally to ensure a longer life while retaining the unique Jaguar sound (8/99). New Premium Battery from Exide Exide is set to launch a new premium car battery into the UK market which is claimed to last 2-3 times longer than a conventional lead acid battery. The Select Orbital battery features six cells of tightly coiled metal covered in acidic gel in place of traditional lead plates and sulphuric acid. Designed to complement Exides existing range of Ultra, Classic and Basic automotive batteries, the Select Orbital battery is maintenance free, leakproof and corrosion resistant. It can also withstand extreme temperatures below minus 40 degrees Celcius and severe levels of vibration. (8/99) Hella Launches New Auxiliary Foglamp Hella, the automotive lighting specialist, has launched a new universal fitting foglamp with a 40mm lens diameter. The Micro-DE is easily recognised by the striking blue rim surrounding the new style glass lens. This "fish-eye" lens features prismatic patterns, rather than less efficient shutter plates to provide optimum light distribution in the fog. It produces a sharp cut off and spreads the light like a broad carpet in front of the vehicle. Because of its size the new lamp is claimed to be ideally suited for fitting in air scoops in bumpers or front spoilers. The lamp is available singularly or in a kit which includes everything required to fit the lamps. (8/99) Würth Additives for Classic Cars Würth
UK Ltd, the workshop consumable supplier, has introduced
a range of newly formulated lead substitute, petrol,
diesel and engine oil additives as well as an engine
flush and cleaner. Four petrol engines with unhardened valve seats, saBesto Lead Substitute contains organic sodium compounds which form a protective layer on valve seats and valve heads. This layer prevents deformation and pocketing of valves and protects against knocking, pinking and late ignition. SaBesto Lead Substitute neutralises acidic condensation, increasing exhaust system life and because it does not contain heavy metal compounds, the product can also be used on cars with retrofitted unregulated catalysts. SaBesto Engine Flush and Cleaner contains a newly developed concentrated agent for dirty engines and old oil. The agent effectively loosens and removes carbon, sludge and varnish deposits from inside the engine ensuring new oil lasts longer once the old oil is drained. The new product also contains surfactants which clean and flush the entire engine il circuit with a strong detergent action. (8/99) Arvin Replacement Products (Timax) has published an up-to-date A4 application guide of its type approved MetalCat metallic substrate catalytic converters, featuring 150 part numbers, their applications and cross references. The Arvin range currently covers 50% of replacement demand but according to Sales development Manager Ian Hesp, this coverage is expected to expand rapidly in the coming months. MetalCats from Arvin are supplied direct from stock central order line 9009 143416. They are individualy boxed and come complete with heatshield, the necessary fittings and instructions together with a two year guarantee. (8/99) Owners of the Rover 220 Coupe Turbo 16-valve (October 1992-March 1996) can now improve the performance of their vehicles with the latest exhaust systems from Magnex. First to be let off the leash is a full system for the cat back which offers performance gains throughout the revs range including an additional six brake horse power in places. Featuring a stylish oval trim, the system retails at £250 plus VAT. Also new is a Magnex rear silencer to fit on the Rovers original system for £104 plus VAT. It is also finished with an eye-caching oval trim. Finally, for the serious enthusiast, Magnex has produced a cat bypass pipe for £39.37 plus VAT. When used alongside the full Magnex system, the pipe achieves improved performance by raising peak power by 8 bhp. Bosch has increased its activity in the ignition sector by introducing two new spark plug references backed up by a point of sale campaign. The Silicone Resistor Core and the Silicone Copper Core succeed the Universal leads range. The range offers 95% coverage of the UK vehicle parc and is available as singles or in boxed sets (8/99) Marelli with Electric Systems Catalogue Magneti Marelli has introduced a new electric systems catalogue covering its range of ignition and fuel injection components. The catalogue, which includes 380 part number, includes fitments for a number of models including Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Peugeot. In addition, he company has extended its XM Xchange rotating electrics programme by adding over 170 new starter motor and alternator references. (8/99) Webcon with New Ignition Range Webcon UK has announced that it has launched its own range of ignition parts. With over 7,000 references, the range covers UK, European, America and Far Eastern vehicles and includes core ignition items such as contact sets, distributor caps, condensers and HT cables as well as ignition modules and the new generation of ignition parts. The range is supported by a 465 page catalogue. (8/99) |
