New Managing Director at Arvin Replacement Products Europe

Jay Sanchez, Managing Director, Arvin Replacement ProductsArvin Replacement Products Group, a division of Arvin Industries, has announced the appointment of Jesus (Jay) Sanchez as Managing Director of Arvin Replacement Products Europe. Taking the place of Dan Daniel, who became President of Arvin Replacement Products at the end of 1999, Jay Sanchez will be responsible for all Arvin Replacement Products' business activities throughout Europe. The new Managing Director will report directly to Dan Daniel and will be based at the division's European head offices in Nanterre, Paris.

Jay Sanchez joins the company after serving 17 years as the Managing Director of Gabriel de Venezuela, and Arvin joint-venture with Sivensa, where he was responsible for the Gabriel shock absorber replacement business as well as Arvin's original equipment exhaust business. Arvin Replacement Products Europe manufactures exhausts, shock absorbers and filters in seven production plants and three technical centres across Europe.


Exide to Acquire GNB From Pacific Dunlop Ltd

The Exide Corporation, parent company of Exide Europe, has entered into an agreement to acquire the global battery business of Australian-based Pacific Dunlop Ltd, including its US subsidiary, GNB Technologies, for around $368 million.

GNB, based in Atlanta, is a leading US and Pacific Rim manufacturer of automotive and industrial batteries, with annual sales of almost $1 billion

The acquisition, which is expected to be completed by the autumn, is subject to due diligence, regulatory review and financing.


Daewoo Opens Aftersales Centres Numbers 7 and 8

Daewoo Cars opened its seventh and eighth UK dedicated service centres in Glasgow and Enfield at the end of April as part of its strategy to enhance the quality and availability of its aftersales support. The Glasgow facility, located at Yorkhill Quay, Clydeside Expressway, alongside the Daewoo Motor Show will carry out approximately 20 services a day and includes one MoT and nine service bays. Located at Haslemere Industrial Estate in Lincoln Way, the 21,600sq ft Enfield facility has created 13 new jobs. The converted warehouse, in which Bosal has invested £200,000 has one MoT and six service bays and is expected to service around 30 cars a day. Both centres have fully equipped workshops, which including tyre and four-wheel alignment kits, parts and storage facilities, dry and wet valeting bays and a customer waiting room with free refreshments.

The expansion of the company's aftersales facility was partly in response to a growth in sales of 39% between 1997 and 1998 and the consequent increase in demand for aftersales care.


Bosal Appoint New Aftermarket Sales Team

Bosal's new aftermarket sales teamBosal has announced the appointment of a new-look aftermarket sales team as part of the company's drive to strengthen its presence in the UK. The team includes both new and old faces who will be working to raise awareness and increase sales of Bosal's range of exhaust systems, towbars, roof racks and leisure accessories.

The team comprises: Tony Lewis as Director of Aftermarket Sales; Peter Redgate as UK Field Sales Manager; John Miller in Scotland and Northern Ireland; Tony Shaffer in the North West of England, North, East and West Yorkshire; Steve Goodale in the East of England, South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire; Angela Clarke in the Midlands and Wales; Sean Monaghan in the South West and South East; and Rob Harvey in Greater London.


Workshop To Explain Global Aftermarket

Diagonal Reports will be conducting a Global Automotive Service Aftermarket Workshop this July in Brussels, Belgium. It is designed for manufacturers of aftermarket parts and is particularly recommended for market research, global business, marketing and sales units.

According to Diagonal Reports, the workshop will be a practical and intensive seminar on opportunities and trends in the global aftermarket. Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer session. In order to guarantee sufficient time and attention to each person the number of attendees is limited to sixteen.

The seminar will be conducted by the company's Research Director and is based on the findings of Diagonal Reports own field research conducted in the largest markets worldwide. Topics covered in the programme include rates of replacement, aftermarket channel performance, usage of services, companies/brands and purchasing criteria as well as emerging aftermarkets.


Mintex PromotionMintex Announces Atlas Promotion

For the first time, Mintex will be promoting directly to the consumer with its special offer of a free A5 atlas with each pad fitting during May and June.

The company reports that its new promotion has been communicated to all UK MOT centres. It claims that this is the first campaign to link the manufacturer with the garage and support the garage in marketing direct to its own consumer base.


New Auto Factors Centre At Cheadle

Auto Factors of Station Road, Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire, are expanding their business to include exhaust parts with the opening of a new 10,000 sq ft parts, exhaust and catalyst centre on the Demmings Road Industrial Estate, Cheadle.

The Managing Director of Auto Factors, Alastair Chalmers, said that the Demmings Road centre offers increased storage capacity and better access to the South Manchester area's customer base. As a result the company's premises at Reddish and Stockport will be closed down and the business moved to the new centre.
